Settlements
Silverport
Port city. I sold remedies in the woods outside it for years. Market District, Lord's Quarter, the Brig. Too many people in one place; you feel it after enough years of quiet. Ports get everyone eventually.
Vogler
River town. Fish leaping in carved stone over the gate, scales like scattered coins. Salted fish goes out from here to Silverport and Seacrest. Nathaniel lives here now.
Serenholme
Salt town on the coast. Stone and weathered wood, built to last, not to welcome. Boats left broken, vegetables small, new graves on the hill. The salt stopped coming out of it. We left it and I didn't look back.
Seacrest
A city I haven't seen. Beautiful streets and ugly back rooms, by Fabri's telling. Ern Lindsor had relatives there. A divination priest there might be able to read the journal.
Land Ho
Ten minutes inland from the coast. Tempus carved on every door beside the anchors and the netting. Sand on the feast hall floor, for what comes before the food. Finest combatants in the region, says Pedro. Always the same, which I'm grateful for.
Mistyvale
Under a canopy someone planted on purpose, cool and dark. Mushroom patches in the low places, tanning racks at the edges. A mining town that turned into a hunting town. Early risers. Good smoked salmon.
East Point
Fishing village on the point. Goats, washing on the lines, nets. The rat-folk took it in a night. It mends now, and it has the turtle ship's plates.
Sites
The Silverport Sewer
Fifteen feet down a slimy ladder from the west end of the Market District. Good stonework, built once to last. A boat in the channels. The Brass Dominion keeps a post down there.
The Sunken Treasure
Inn half a mile off the coast road, a day east of Silverport. Arrived at dusk. Nothing happened all night. Rare.
The Turtle Ship
Wide layered plates over the top, nothing that grows in Etheryn. Moves against the current without sails. Burned the Black Eel, by Tylsa's account. One room inside, oars down both sides, rat claw marks on every grip. Ran itself aground at East Point. Not a turtle.
Thornwall Keep
East of Vogler. Thick stone in pieces, being rebuilt; the Paladin's work, Elias says. We owe it a letter.
The Sea-stone
Serenholme's inn. Two old men at the bar, local herbs in the food. A room behind the fireplace with a poisoner's kit and writing that says nothing. Where the town came for us in the night.
The Church of Valkur
On the hill above Serenholme, beside a watchtower older than it. It changed once while we were in it. A ladder in the podium goes down to a room older than the church. We burned what was down there.
The Salt Mine
Half a day north of Serenholme. Smells of salt and decay from the entrance. Crates of salt, pink and white, and seven dead among them. The Chuul came up out of the dark at the back.
Merle's Hut
West of the church. One room, a stove, oiled sacks on the shelves, furs worth fifty gold. A chest at the foot of the bed with a blunderbuss at the bottom and a scabbard I'd seen the mark of before.
The Temple of Kamosh
A hole in a field north of Mistyvale where the ground opened. Stairs not built in any century I can name. Doors with skull portholes, a seven-pointed star cut in each, blue in the sockets. Older than the land. Victor and Cain brought the stone down over it.
The Mistyvale Mine
A day east of town; the town calls it haunted. Old rails, rotten crates. A crack to the southeast into a cave older than the mine. The missing were there.
The Seawatch Cutter
Beached at East Point, a third of her burning, the bow torn open by fire. Eight men dead in the flooded hold, all at once.
The Pit
Clearing north of East Point, dug out by rats under a whip. A swept floor, a skull carved in it ringed with flowers, three stone caskets older than Etheryn. A mace, a bow carved with lilies, a plain sword. Cain filled it back in.
Roads & Wilds
River Marin
Runs north of the coast road, down from Vogler. Blue flashes through the treeline all afternoon.
Harrod's Wood
Thick trees, light at wrong angles. Gashak's people said evil spirits. Nothing came out at us the first time through. I've spent more time in it since than on any other ground.
The Fork
A split in the road at the bottom of Harrod's Wood. We've camped there more than once. The ground shook there for a full minute one night, and every bird left. Strangers in jade green camp there now, asking the way to Land Ho.
Etheryn
The land. Four hundred years old, Maron says; it wasn't here before the spell-plague. The land is not the land. Whatever is under it is older.
